Disembark the Ocean Explorer today and fly to Rio de Janeiro to begin your optional post-trip extension. After checking in your hotel, you’ll get to know this cidade maravilhosa (marvelous city) on an included tour. You’ll be swept away by its tropical flavors, striking landscapes, and ever-present alegría when you ride a cable car to the top of Sugarloaf Mountain. The sweeping views of the bay, the curve of Copacabana, and the peak of Corcovado provide excellent photographic opportunities. Visit Christ the Redeemer statue by cog rail train
Today, we’ll board a cog rail train for a scenic ride through the Tijuca Forest to the top of Corcovado Mountain. This is where you’ll witness the towering Christ the Redeemer statue. This is one of the New Seven Wonders of the World, which offers the perfect opportunity to photograph Rio’s panoramic views.
Later, we’ll head to the city center and enjoy lunch at Confeitaria Colombo for a taste of Rio's Belle Epoque past. Founded in 1894 by Portuguese immigrants Joaquim Borges de Meireles and Manuel José Lebrão, this historic restaurant is known as one of the world’s most beautiful places to dine, featuring ornate chandeliers and jacaranda wood mirrors. Relax and enjoy a delicious meal in this opulent setting. Don't forget your camera to capture the grandeur of the place!
Following lunch, you’ll have the remainder of the day to spend at your leisure.
