This is the third-oldest European-founded city in the Americas and home to one of the Caribbean’s largest natural harbors. Nicknamed La Ciudad Amurallada (the walled city), Old San Juan was originally conceived as a military stronghold for the Spanish empire. One of the most iconic sites in San Juan is its once impenetrable Castillo San Felipe del Morro.
