Here are some Frequently Asked Questions about Travel Protection Plans.

Note that a final claims determination is made based upon the plan provisions, and the written documentation we receive with your claim submission.

1. What happens if my flight is delayed or canceled?
You will be reimbursed up to $300 per day to a maximum of $1,500 for any additional accommodation and travel expense if you incur a delay of 12 hours or more for a covered reason during your Trip.
2. What are Pre-Existing Conditions and can a Pre-Existing Condition be covered by the Protection Plan?

For Part A: Trip Cancellation Waiver, purchase within 14 days and your pre-existing medical condition would qualify for cash reimbursement; purchase after 14 days and receive a voucher.

For Part B: Travel Benefits, a pre-existing medical condition is an illness or injury that you, a traveling companion or family member were seeking or receiving treatment for or had symptoms of on the day you purchased your plan, or at any time in the 120 days before you purchased it.

Please also note that you may still be covered for losses caused by reasons other than those related to a pre-existing medical condition. Terms, conditions and exclusions apply. Please see your Certificate of Insurance Policy for full details.

Purchasing Part B Travel Benefits with a pre-existing condition:

Allianz Global Assistance offers pre-existing medical condition coverage, as long as the following criteria is met:

  • Your policy was purchased within 14 days of the date of the first trip payment or deposit
  • You were a U.S. resident when the policy was purchased
  • You were medically able to travel when the policy was purchased
  • On the policy purchase date, you insured the full non-refundable cost of your trip with us. This includes trip arrangements that will become non-refundable or subject to cancellation penalties between the policy purchase date and the departure date
Please see your Certificate of Insurance/Policy for terms, conditions, and exclusions. Even if you don't meet the requirements for pre-existing condition coverage, you can still purchase travel insurance, but any loss due to a pre-existing medical condition will be excluded.
3. What if bad weather is predicted where I plan to travel? Will the Travel Protection Plan cover me if I cancel my Trip?
The Travel Travel Protection Plan does not provide coverage if you cancel your Trip based upon what may or may not happen.

However, this plan does provide a Cancel For Any Reason Waiver that allows you to cancel your arrangements before the scheduled trip departure, provided you purchased the plan within the limited time period in which it is offered to you by .
4. What happens if my bags do not arrive at my destination when I do? What do I do?
The Travel Protection Plan covers all baggage delays of more than 12 hours during your Trip. You will be reimbursed up to $600 for personal articles you buy (such as toiletries, a change of clothing, etc.). Be sure to keep receipts for anything you purchase.
5. If I require medical care while on my Trip, are my medical bills covered?
Your primary coverage through Part B of the trip protection plan provides reimbursement for expenses incurred during your trip due to covered medical and dental emergencies–up to a maximum amount of $50,000 for medical, with a $750 sublimit for dental. Expenses for emergency medical or dental treatment incurred after the trip are not covered.

7. What happens if I lose my job and I must cancel my Trip?
The Travel Protection Plan provides coverage for job termination provided: 1) your job loss is the result of your involuntary termination of employment or layoff; and 2) you must have been continuously employed with the same employer for 1 year prior to the termination or layoff.
8. What If I purchase a Trip Protection Plan prior to March 1, 2021?

9. What happens If I must cancel my trip because I'm Ill or Injured?
Our Travel Protection Plan covers you if you must cancel your trip due to a covered illness or injury. A covered illness or injury must:

Commence while the plan is in effect for you; and

In the written opinion of the treating physician, be so disabling as to cause a trip to be canceled; and

Require the examination and treatment by a physician at the time you cancel your trip.

Remember, it is required that you are seen or treated by your physician prior to canceling your trip. If there is an illness, injury, or death, the Attending Physician Statement (APS) MUST be completed. A note/letter from the doctor is not enough, unless it answers all the questions on the APS.
10. What happens If I cancel my trip for a reason that Is not covered?
We realize that all trip protection has exclusions and limitations. That’s why we offer Travel Waiver Benefits with this plan.

Our Pre-Departure Cancellation Waiver allows you to cancel your trip for any reason not otherwise covered by your trip protection package and receive a travel voucher for the amount of any cancellation penalties that can be applied to any reservation that was booked on or after the date of the cancellation. Travel Vouchers are non-transferable and not redeemable for cash.
11. What happens If I must Interrupt my trip and return home early?
Your Part B Travel Benefits reimburse the unused, non-refundable portion of your trip expenses and the increased transportation costs it takes you to continue your trip or return home if you, or your Traveling Companion, need to interrupt your trip for a covered reason.
