What to Expect

Activity Level

Takes into consideration the physical requirements for each of the trips, walking, hiking, climbing in and out of safari vehicles etc.
           Moderate

Travelers should be able to climb 60 stairs consecutively, plus walk at least 3 miles over some steep slopes and loose or uneven surfaces without difficulty. Walks typically last for 3 or more hours at a time. Altitude can range from 5,000 to 7,000 feet.

Pacing

Takes into consideration the length of bus rides, flights, number of destinations in the number of days
           Moderate

Pacing is sometimes robust, and may include several long days with early hotel departures, active sightseeing and evening activities. Opportunities for daytime rest and rejuvenation may be limited on most days. May include significant motor coach time, two or more on-tour flights, and/or occasional travel via non-traditional means such as safari vehicles, Zodiac ship tenders, rickshaws/pedi-cabs, etc.

PACING:
  • This adventure is moderately paced
  • Your 16-day cruise includes 11 nights aboard the Ocean Odyssey and 2 nights each at the Hilton Reykjavík Nordica (or similar) in Reykjavík prior to and after your cruise
  • In addition to your arrival and departure cities, you'll visit 12 ports of call in Iceland.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • You should be in relatively good health to fully enjoy this tour
  • This journey does not entail walking for great distances but you should be comfortable walking longer distances on uneven terrain, as well as some uphill walking
  • Most city sightseeing takes place on air-conditioned coaches with guides
  • There are several walking tours through historic centers and villages where uneven roads or terrain should be expected
  • This cruise tour is not suitable for those who have difficulty walking or require wheelchairs or other mobility aids. Please refer to Vantage's wheelchair and handicapped traveler policy

TERRAIN & TRANSPORTATION
  • Your ship is your main means of transportation between destinations
  • All land transportation is conducted on board deluxe, air-conditioned motorcoaches

CLIMATE
  • Expect temperate to cool weather in many destinations on this trip, with daytime highs of 55°–70°F. Please note that it can get chilly at night, so bring a lightweight sweater or warm jacket for the evening
  • Bring a light rain jacket and/or umbrella
  • At sea it can occasionally be windy. A windbreaker, sweater, or light jacket is recommended

ONBOARD INTERNET AVAILABILITY:
  • While cruising, Internet connectivity may be limited or unavailable depending on ship location and signal availability
  • Internet connectivity will be normal when at docking locations

Please note: Ocean-cruising is not the same experience as river cruising; as such, you may experience fluctuating tides and weather patterns that may involve some rocking of your vessel. Itineraries will include all activities as planned except in extreme cases that can’t be controlled by your shipboard crew. The above day-by-day itineraries are preliminary and therefore subject to change. If changes occur while on tour, you will be notified by your Vantage Cruise Director or regional expert.
