What to Expect

Activity Level

Takes into consideration the physical requirements for each of the trips, walking, hiking, climbing in and out of safari vehicles etc.
           Moderate

Travelers should be able to climb 60 stairs consecutively, plus walk at least 3 miles over some steep slopes and loose or uneven surfaces without difficulty. Walks typically last for 3 or more hours at a time. Altitude can range from 5,000 to 7,000 feet.

Pacing

Takes into consideration the length of bus rides, flights, number of destinations in the number of days
           Moderately Easy

Moderately paced, and may include some early morning hotel departures, one or two on-tour flights, and extended motorcoach travel.

PACING:
  • This trip is moderately paced
  • Your 17-day expedition cruise tour includes 12 nights on board the 5-star Ocean Explorer; plus, hotel stays for 4 nights total (2 each) in Nassau and Boston. (The 17 days includes the day you depart from home, plus the day you return home.)
  • Over the course of 17 days you'll visit 7 ports of call in 3 states plus the Bahamas.
  • Sightseeing is usually offered in half-day tours, with time to relax every day
  • There are 5 days at sea when you have ample time to relax and enjoy the amenities on board your luxury expedition vessel
  • We often cruise overnight but some scenic sailing will be conducted during daylight hours

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • You should be in relatively good health to fully enjoy this tour
  • This journey does not entail walking for great distances but you will be on your feet for an hour or two at a time
  • Most sightseeing takes place on air-conditioned coaches with guides
  • There are several walking tours through archaeological sites, historic centers, and villages where uneven steps and cobblestones should be expected
  • You will have the opportunity to swim, snorkel, kayak, and ride bikes
  • This cruise tour is not suitable for those who have difficulty walking or require wheelchairs or other mobility aids. Please refer to Vantage's wheelchair and handicapped traveler policy

TERRAIN & TRANSPORTATION:
  • Your ship is your main means of transportation between destinations
  • Land transportation is conducted on board deluxe, air-conditioned motorcoaches with the exception of Martha’s Vineyard, where you’ll tour the island on board a local school bus
  • In some locations you may ride along uneven or bumpy roads, especially in more rural areas or at historical sites
  • You will have several opportunities to enjoy local modes of transportation: trolleys in Provincetown and Wilmington; and a Nature Train in Charleston (Magnolia Plantation)

CLIMATE:

For the Boston to Nassau departure, your trip in the fall in New England means that you will enjoy pleasant temperatures, not to mention the colorful foliage. As you make your way south it will naturally become somewhat warmer, so that swimming in the ship’s pool will be possible. Please refer to the temperature charts in Before You Go section for more details

Please Note: Ocean cruising is not the same experience as river cruising; as such, you may experience fluctuating tides and weather patterns that may involve some rocking of your vessel. Itineraries will include all activities as planned except in extreme cases that can’t be controlled by your shipboard crew. Day-by-day itineraries are preliminary and therefore subject to change. If changes occur while on tour, you will be notified by your Cruise Director or regional expert.
