"Catch the Bug" from Our Southern Africa Office
When Vantage's Regional General Manager of southern Africa Pieter Enright tells
travelers to beware of the Africa Travel Bug, he's not referring to the tsetse fly.
"Once bitten," he jokes, "everyone falls in love with this part of the world. Many
of them return year after year!"
Pieter can't blame them. After 12 years in the travel industry, it's where he chooses
to live, and he and his wife are delighted to raise their young daughter Natasha
in Cape Town, South Africa. He loves showing travelers the diversity of this vast
region: the best game viewing safaris in the world, breathtaking landscapes, world-class
vineyards, a rich and fascinating heritage, and the cosmopolitan flair of his home
city.
"The Best Trip Ever!"
Pieter is proud that the people of southern Africa have worked to make South Africa,
Botswana, Zimbabwe, and Namibia among the best destinations in the world. One Vantage
guest recently told him as his trip drew to a close, "Good memories are captured
on this camera. But our lasting memories are here in Africa, and we'll be back to
revisit them." The guest echoed what Pieter has heard from so many: that their Africa
journey was "the best trip ever."
It's Vantage's local know-how that keeps people coming, he says. A guide from outside
Africa could never tell a traveler about the sunset dinner on the beach in Camps
Bay, South Africa; or that the vendors in Zimbabwe's Victoria Falls market sometimes
prefer to barter for old clothes, sunglasses, or calculators. But local Program
Managers know all these secrets.
